vista: an error occurred while internet connection sharing was being enabled

Vista-ICS-error

Problem: You receive the above message from Vista whenever you try to enable ICS on a network adaptor.

Solution: This worked for me: I first set manually the ip number : 192.168.0.1 on my SECOND adaptor. Mask 255.255.255.0

When I say second adaptor I mean the one through which other computers will connect and not the primary one that receives the internet.

I gave the settings by opening control panel> Network and sharing center then on the left sidepane click on MANAGE NETWORK CONNECTIONS, then right click on the connection> properties> select TCP/IP 4 and then click on properties

  13. This is getting ridiculous. I've tried everything I can to get this to work with no avail. I've tried bridging the connection of my LAN connection with my wireless connection. Nope. I've tried enabling those 5 components suggested here (). Nope. I've tried manually adjusting the IP and sub as is suggested here in this tutorial and not only does my internet revert to local access only, ICS still doesn't work, like some sort of sick punchline to the joke. I'm just about ready to go out of mind here unless someone can please tell me something that I might be doing wrong.

  14. Does this apply to netgear, because I tried this and several other stuff on the net and it still wouldn't allow sharing, my pc used to allow it, but now it won't.

  17. ok guys did you by any chance change the wrong adapter im assuming you want to use wireless to get the signal from router and ethernet to connect elsewhere ? if so make sure you only change the ethernet not wireless or vice versa

  20. do i put my IP address in first then i type in a mask IP? What is a mask ip is it a fake ip what people see when they try to connect? a responce would be great.

  21. When you enable internet connection sharing windows enables by default that particular IP 192.168.0.1 and the computer behaves like a software-virtual router. There is no way to change that IP, or ICS will not work. You must have it like that. And the mask also must be like that in the photo.

  23. I have tried all of these steps but still I I am not able to share. My event log says this.

"The DHCP allocator has disabled itself on IP address 169.254.184.188, since the IP address is outside the 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 scope from which addresses are being allocated to DHCP clients. To enable the DHCP allocator on this IP address, change the scope to include the IP address, or change the IP address to fall within the scope."

Please help my I have spent days trying to figure this out!

  27. Chances are, those of you that are having issues are changing the IP/Subnet Mask on the wrong machine. In my case, I am sharing the wireless internet from my laptop TO my desktop (which is too far from the router to be plugged in) so I changed the IP/Subnet mask on my DESKTOP. For those who are sharing your laptop's wireless to say your xbox 360, you need to go to your network setting on the xbox and change the IP/Subnet mask there and NOT on your laptop, hope that helps!

  28. If you get an error that shuts down your internet connection, then you are configuring the wrong card. Make sure you are configuring the WI-FI card (NOT THE LAN) This should help for those who are getting disconnected from the internet.
